Description:  APC’s PowerChute Application Shutdown Utility allows Oracle database administrators to quickly configure PowerChute Plus for NT to safely shutdown databases in the event of a power disturbance. An easy to use wizard-style interface steps the database administrator (DBA) through a series of questions regarding the Oracle database server being configured to shutdown. After an Oracle shutdown triggered by PowerChute Plus the DBA can view a shutdown log, which records the time and type of shutdown and whether it was completed successfully. Whenever the UPS is on battery, but before PowerChute Plus begins to shut down the operating system, the shutdown command is sent to Oracle. Only after the shutdown delay countdown is completed does the operating system shut down.   Some configurations will give users time to complete their current transactions and even disconnect from the instance. The type of shutdown selected during configuration will depend on the DBA’s estimation of the users’ needs, the time required to shut down Oracle, and of the UPS run time before low battery. The four shutdown configurations are Normal, Transactional (Oracle 8 only), Immediate, and Abort. All instances on the server that need to be shutdown are configured during the same session.
